Drawn up since 1998 upon indications provided by the European Council of Cardiff, the National Report on Economic Reform (NRER) had been annually updated until 2004 and submitted to the European Commission by 15 November each year.
The NRER illustrated the progress achieved via the structural reforms implemented in the product and capital markets, as well as Italy's progress in implementating the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines (BEPG).
In 2005, with the relaunch of the Lisbon Strategy, the NRER became part of the National Reform Programme (NRP) coordinated by the Department for European Policies, within the Italian Prime Minister's Office. The Treasury Department provides the NRP with specific contributions on product markets, the public finance and macroeconomic reference framework, as well as with information on the impact of the reforms implemented.
National Reports on Economic Reform (NRER) were published from 1998 to 2004.
