The General Report on Italy's Economy (called RGE) is a document established by Law n. 639 of 21.8.1949 and subsequent amendments. It is submitted to the Parliament by March and it is traditionally considered one of the planning documents, as it assesses the impacts of Government policies.
The RGE illustrates macroeconomic and public finance final data related to the previous year and it highlights the main results achieved. Furthermore, it provides a sectoral analysis related to GDP composition and income distribution, and it examines available financial resources and their respective usage, as well as labour market, education, welfare, health care, and economic trends in macro areas of the country. Within public finance, the RGE analyses the results achieved by the State and overall general government secors. As to the international economy, the RGE presents the main macroeconomic indicators.
The current content of the RGE was outlined in 1993. The document encompasses three volumes, respectively devoted to: i) Italy's and international economic developments; ii) Sectoral analysis; iii) Statistical annexes to the first two volumes.
