Director General of the Treasury

Vincenzo La Via was appointed Director General of the Treasury on 23 March 2012.

Before the appointment, he served for approximately seven years as financial director at World Bank where, as part of the senior management team, he supervised the management of the Vice Presidencies in charge of the issues of corporate finance and risk management, treasury, management control, low-interest financing and global partnerships, general services and the transactions under the responsibility of the World Bank’s chief risk officer.

He headed the World Bank’s Finance Commission and Pensions Management Committee and also represented the World Bank on the Financial Stability Board, concluding the first major capital increase for the World Bank in more than 20 years. In 2007, La Via was in charge of rebuilding the World Bank's fund for the world's poorest countries, namely, the International Development Agency (IDA).

Before his experience at the World Bank, he was chief financial officer of Banca Intesa and earlier, from 1997 to 2000, the head of the Directorate II of the Italian Treasury Department, with responsibility for the issuance and management of the public debt.
