Vincenzo La Via has been the Director General of the Treasury since 15 May 2012.
Before taking the position, he was Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of World Bank for approximately seven years. He was previously the chief financial officer of Banca Intesa, and was the head of the Public Debt Directorate of the Department of the Treasury.
As Director General of the Treasury, he represents Italy within work groups and committees set up by leading international financial organisations. He is the Minister’s substitute at meetings of the G8, G20 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee. He is vice chairman of the European Union Economic and Financial Committee, chairman of the European Union Financial Services Committee, chairman of the Risk Management and Control Committees for the European Stability Mechanism and the European Financial Stability Facility. He also presides over the Advisory and Guarantee Committee for Privatisations and the SACE Committee. He is a member of the board of directors of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A.
A graduate in Economics and Statistics from Rome’s La Sapienza University, he earned a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
